Manawa's Poem Poem by Turuz Hautapu

Manawa's Poem

I weep for the happiness you will never see

For the handsome man that will not be

I weep for the mischief you will not cause

For the wonderful life that was put on pause

I weep for the life you had yet to live

For the gifts to this world you had yet to give

I weep for missing you is tearing me apart

For the life that didn't have a chance to start

I weep for the memories you will not have

For the fears you will not be able to brave

I weep for the hearts you will not break

For you, my own heart will forever ache

I weep for the times we cannot share

It's more than I want bear

Your shocking red hair

That flutters without a care

Your beautiful white smile

That makes me float a mile

Your wise grey-green eyes

That will forever stand thru time

Your smooth porcelain skin

That would always ‘Take it on the chin'

Your off-beat Irish-Māori style

That would make the angriest person smile

Your care-free laugh

That turned all adults into your staff

Your love-needing cry

That would draw the toughest person nigh

Your solid rugby-ready frame

For that, my dear, I am part to blame

I weep happiness you will never see

For the handsome man that will not be

I weep for the mischief you will not cause

For the wonderful life that was put on pause

I weep for the life you had yet to live

For the gifts to this world you had yet to give

I weep for missing you is tearing me apart

For the life that didn't have a chance to start

I weep for the memories you will not have

For the fears you will not be able to brave

I weep for the hearts you will not break

For you, my own heart will forever ache

I weep for the times we cannot share

It's more than I want bear

These are just some of the things that made you unique

My exquisite boy, my delicate rose;

Hearts the world over will forever weep

It was a nightmare to lose you

My angelic nephew, my lovely Manawa;

But to have you at all is the sweetest dream come true.
