Manhattan Wonder Manhattan Poem by Sherif Monem

Manhattan Wonder Manhattan

Manhattan, Manhattan, the wonder Manhattan
Neighboring Hudson, East and Harlem rivers
Liberty lady sends greetings at the harbor
Manhattan a jewel borough of New York city
With famous streets, avenues and squares
The Times Square with blazing neon lights
The Fifth, Broadway and Madison to mention
The mid-town forty second and Wall streets
Manhattan Island the land of hundred tongues
The Broadway theater shows and Hello Dolly
The world United Nations headquarters building
The museum of Natural History and Guggenheim
The Grand Central Terminal the marvel architect
The peaceful Central Park haven for relaxation
with splendid trees, green grass and flowers
The enjoyable blue sparkling pretty ponds
The George Washington bridge at the Hudson
The famous suspension old Brooklyn bridge
The Lincoln tunnel and the Holland tunnel
Manhattan started some five hundreds years ago
when the sea explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano
ever saw the Lenape Natives in their boats
Manhattan changed hands from Dutch to English
from fur trading center to once slavery trade
All this have changed forever long time ago
The famous Wall Street old as the city itself
A center of the finance for America and world
The Macy Thanksgiving beautiful colorful parade
The cheers of the happy crowds at the Union Square
Watching by moments the dropping of New Year ball
The fireworks extravaganza, the whistles and bells
All this tell the story of the amazing Manhattan
