Many Colours Of Crime Poem by Tosin Abegunde

Many Colours Of Crime

Walking through vales of rhetorics
Ask i what crime is
Could it be disguised?
Who then is a criminal?
This stream of puzzle
My mind it floods
When my mental eyes i cast
At ingiorious goings
In our set up
Hmmm! It was hazy
But when one uses
The minor of objectivity
To reflect various crimes
In this society of ours
Crime then is seen in multi-colour
Disguised in different style
Yes! White collar criminals
We have, using pens to drain
Our nations economy
What about the blue blooded
Relishing imposed contributions
From their peasant- subject?
Or is it the sweet talking priests
Who extracts the last kobo
From his drug barons
Flouting their wealth
While their couriers languish in jail
Oh! You want me to mention?
The industrialist
Who stole workers labour?
Certainly, not me!
Vividly it is seen
Truth is it that only the privileged thief
And the gun-totting that are criminals.
The executive criminals (EC)
Hiding under the cloak of stolen opulence and inflated
Are also criminals
Oh! Is it because
'na who dey catch be thief? '
Think, think, men,
The chalk-board lords
Selling eight pages for a million
The 'do-gooder' of our time
are they?
Think!
