The night has come, I see it now
The stars so bright and real,
They jump my way, they seem to play
And twinkle when I'm near.
They dazzle as I peer their way-
No sounds or smirks or tears-
They know (I think)
As they soar and sweep
Their disporting-time is here.
Sometimes I think their mischief
Is nothing but boyish plans,
And their shimmers and flickerings-
Are all to conquer night's new land.
I blink and wonder as they go
And seeing them, I cheer,
To welcome them
-their games and plans-
These celestial pioneers.
