Martini Mom Poem by Lauren Harper

Martini Mom

Oh honey.
I may have given you one of my X chromosomes.
But don't confuse that X with x's and o's
Because darlin'
I'm just not that type
of woman.
I'm not a hugs and kisses type.
I am a martini mom.
My house
Is Chardonnay.
My breath
is one part
Forget
And two parts
Listen
To
What
I
Say
Bitch.
Morning after pills
Of erase my memory.
Last night?
I do not recall.
Me?
Hurt?
A?
Fly?
Never darling.
I'm perfect.
Stop your silly games
And grab a glass daughter.
Leave your audacity at the door.
This battle is not yours.
Your opinion not asked for.
Sit.
Listen.
Sit
Ignore the throbbing
Purple and gold
in your chest
And take it all in.
After all
Alcohol
Perhaps will make you too
Forget.
