Mask Of Deception Poem by Brittany Marsh

Mask Of Deception

Smiling faces pass me by
All real and happy
They don't have to wear their masks
Behind my mask
Is a face that has everyone fooled
Of course a frown is occasionally shown
Possibly a single tear
But they wouldn't plead for my insanity
Or emotions
And lifestyle
No
They live their lives
I barely pass through mine
Everyone takes the escalators
I hike up the stairs
Supposed to be the strong one
Or so they always said
What they don't know is how much weight i carry
Sadness drowns me
Suffocates me as I scream
Life is leading nowhere
Except to the bottom of a hole I claimed long ago
Day by day this mask rots away
It slowly dies
Revealing what people fear
What people hate
My only guard
My mask
It fades
I find it hard to conjure a smile
To fight the tears
My defenses have weakened
My heart has deadened
My mask lays broken on the floor
I lay lifeless once again
