Mass Slaughter Poem by Benjamin Thornwood

Mass Slaughter

We all are innocent
Well as innocent as a mass can be
Pure as a whole
Faulty as an individual
But does that mean we should all be condemned?

There a children
The old
The sick
Newborns and newly weds

Must we all be killed?
A flock of sheep sent to the slater house
Just for one being discolored?
What justice is there
To call us the condemned
Just because we do not look like you
That means we are all just pretend?
Not quite human
Faulty fakes

But i just had a kid the other day
And my wife just went to see her friends
And their mothers made tea
And gossipped just like anyone else would

What makes us so different?
Our skin?
Our teeth?
But don't we all burn just the same
All have mothers and lovers
And cry at the end of the day?

Why must we die
When we have committed no crime
We have done no wrong
Other than be called a them and not an us

But we are just like you
And you are just like us
With homes and stories
With foods and dances
And festival and trials
We are all one species

And although my hair might be different
The pain of isolation is the same
The pain of domination is the same
The pain of being taken is the same

We are not some wild beast
Sent from hell
We are all human
Innocent with boundless potential
And yet you hang us anyways
