Matters Of The Day Poem by Donal Mahoney

Matters Of The Day

Rating: 4.0

In a long marriage
couples communicate
in so many ways, often in silence.

In recent years I rise very early
and now leave post-it notes
on the stove for my wife to see.
They deal with matters of the day.

This morning I left six notes, far too many.
I told her later I was sorry about
all the notes, a bad way
to start her day.

She said the more notes I leave
the more energetic she thinks
I'll be that day.

I hated to tell her I leave
the notes to avoid forgetting
matters of the day.
