May I Have This Dance? Poem by Jim Boone

May I Have This Dance?

</></> No? Then you better get your eyes
out of that beer and look this way;
they're dancing just for you.

Oh, my God. Two, guys slow
dancing with each other. How
exciting. Get me out of here!

What do you mean you can't do that?
Look around, nobody here will say
a word except, 'Yeah! ', 'Uuh huh'.
You've never (?) [ laughter ]
boy, it's time you came to life.
On your feet pledge!

So this is what dancing is like. Back,
step, turn, dip - wooooah.

Damn you're light, see, it's not so hard.
That's it, you follow real good for a
pusher.

Only thing I ever pushed was a lawn
mower and the envelope. No I don’t
need a drink. I need to keep dancing.

Will you dance with me?
Two bodies moving to that disco beat;
'Do a little dance, sing a little song,
get down tonight, get down'.

Oh yeah, you gotta' know it;
a night of dancing leads to a night
of romancing, so let's not miss a beat.

May I have this dance?
Will you get that close to me and move
as if the music were poring through our
veins? Yeah? Cool. 1967
