Maybe One Day, We Wake Poem by Jason Reynolds

Maybe One Day, We Wake

Every time I awake,
I find myself trapped behind gates of wakefulness.

Today is tiring,
not because of the day itself,
but because of the realization of my own worthlessness.

Values are taken for granted in today's world.
People are used to satisfy selfish needs.

Greed and power are sins,
sins committed through desperate desires
and careless minds.

We all need to awaken from the shadows of our fears,
to rise from the darkness placed upon us
by those who claim to be sublimer than you.

They will always try to silence
those who speak against their evil ambitions.
So do not fear, but feel the souls of others,
through care and gentle hands,
as for kindness still... remains.
