Memories Dim Poem by Hailey Agnew

Memories Dim

Rating: 5.0

How is it that the memories you once held so dear,
Eventually fade after time and aren't so crystal clear?
All the memories you swore you'd never forget,
the sweetness of his voice as you lay on his bed,
the soft movement of his loving caress.
The look in his eyes as you laid face-to-face,
his sweet breath and soft lips just inches away.
How is it that once he's gone and you've started to move on,
those memories aren't as as sharp or as strong?
Once that happens you want it all again,
you want to go back and have all the memories flood back so you can mend.
Then you think of his smug smile,
he gave it only to you, it drove your heart wild.
One thing you'll never forget is that smile and the way he looked at you,
the look in his eyes the last time you saw him said 'I love you' it's true.
But once he's gone and you just want to see him,
you look back on the memories and they seem dim.
You hate yourself for taking it all for granted,
for not memorizing those moments and not having planned it.
You curse the days you lived in denial,
you knew he was leaving, going miles and miles.
Once he was gone that was it,
You'd never kiss him again, never succumb to his eyes playful tricks.
But what in the world you wouldn't give,
just to have those memories close to you again.
You don't know what you got till it's gone,
I should have kissed him one last time and told him 'so long'.
