Memory Poem by Jill Burns

Memory

Your memory has faded into the distance
To remember your face, I almost need assistance
But what is left within the mist of my cloudy mind
haunts me all the time

Your touch helped me feel calm and safe,
I remember this much
I remember as a child
somehow you managed to make me smile
Even your punishment was calm and mild

When you became ill, the tears I cried knowing your fate,
left my heart as stone and took all but hate
And while most memories fade away,
some still stay and haunt me from day to day
