Mentor Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Mentor

It is said:
Mum gave birth to me
Then she gave breast, taught me to suck milk
Then sat at my cradle awake, taught me to sleep
Then a word and two to my mouth, taught me to talk
Then holding my hand step by step, she taught me to walk
Then my liveliness coming of her, till I am alive, I will love her

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Note:
This translated poem is from Iraj Mirza, one of the greatest poets in 19th Century. He was a member of the Royal Family in Iran, a serious defender of women’s rights, and most of his poems are against the mullahs and chador. Among his poems and the most read is a sexy ode, which is in reply to Aref Qazvini who was his closest friend and a great nationalist, revolutionist, poet, musician and singer.
I name it mentor to be suitable for my great professor, Patricia Keeney who, as a mentor is as valuable for me as is a mother to her child.
