Message From The Ancestors Poem by Omoanatse Agbugui

Message From The Ancestors

Rating: 4.7

I wonder what the ancestors would say
if they could see me today
She say baby despite all you done
you have yet have yet to overcome
After all the bloodshed
Nooses around heads
And white babies I Brest fed
cause massa snatched between my legs
Forcing my husband to look a head Pick faster massa said Whips cracking Auction blocks bustling with nose
Bleeding out my back
Shackles round my ankles don't look back
I said don't look back
Cause them facts
Don't crack
like black
They thick like a soul Sisters hips
Fit To birth nations
Under God And over me
We Built this nation
Every piece of land
From sea to sea
Dig deeper
And y'all still gonna see me
My people have homes all over this earth
Built dynasties cultivated civilizations
Gifted wit melanin from the universe
They know our worth
Thrones that sit higher than city projects
Skin so rich like my soul
They ravaged my lands for oil
Today my blood boils
Gold chips seeping out my pores
Diamonds run down my cheeks
That's how my land weeps
Cause y'all think the slave ship Started it
Awe nah Baby we are the original man
The blue print if you will
Yet n still It's Juneteenth for me
But many of us still don't act free
Programmed by the tv
The politicians Ain't polo tricking me
Passing policy
While its Pop pop by the police
Packing us like packages
Into prisons From preschools
pipeline rules
Use Michelle Alexander tools
Tubman on the money
But we need a railroad
Obama in the house
Where his people were sold
Media telling lies
Watch dis truth unfold
We hold these truths
To be self evident
Its all in the evidence
All man are created equal
All except my people
Democracy Making a mockery
While white supremacy
Brewing on the back stove
The did it all to brake us
And we still don't look old
Jim Crow can't sleep
Cause Willie Lynch ain't dead
It's swinging in a nearby tree
Crows is eyes watching me
Its the strange fruit said Nina
Blood on the root Said Ms. Simone
Is it to late to return home Asked Garvey
Cause Eric Garner is dead
Travons hoodie is no longer on his head
Assata still wanted by the Feds
Sandra's killers walks free
Passing out those DWB's
Yes driving while black is still a crime
They just won't put it on the books
Yes being black can be a crime
They locking us up based on looks
Sistas take back ya throne
Leave all that twerking alone
It ain't working it ain't building a home
It doesn't nurture empires
And Welfare is a trick
Cause dis system been pimping us for generations
Wouldn't need welfare if we got our reparations
Fellas street blocks and cell blocks
Feel the same they both cold
In there they take ya name
You become a number and grow old
Come back ya sistas need you
Come back your kingdoms yearn
Come back ya children wanna learn you
Come back because we earned you
Come back because black needs black In order to birth you
Baby black is a virtue
A blessing denied to some
A gift given to many If we stand as one
I wonder what the ancestors would say if they could see us today
She say after all we done
it be worth it if we could just free one
