Mike And I Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Mike And I

Mike and I

We vary in faith, birth and place
-and sure, are good friends

He has been scientist
-but is an Orthodox
-believer, practiced
-I was born a Shiite
-can say am agnostic

Love to have a source but
-get lost in whirlpool of
-one simple tough question
-that raised it Andrei:
- "Let us say there is God…
-Who made him? "

That makes me agnostic…

In tonight's talk with Mike
-I went back to Shah's time
-then we marched
-carried and shouted the
-slogans:
- "Down with shah! "
- "Death to shah! "

We were all united
-children, men, women

All eager to see change
-doubtlessly for better

Walked by me an old man
-lower-voiced but with us
-could see his suspicions

We spoke, in me found some trust
-opened mouth
- "Religion has been a boiling pot for too long
-on fire, but always lid on top…not this time! ! ! "
-now I see what he meant…
