Mirage Poem by Scarlett Irvine

Mirage

I am beautiful
I am courage
My skin is snow
Hair washed from the war
The graveyards of artillery
Spun so cunningly
I loved when your world was
Tears
The roughness of your face
Unbearable
Only mine, only my love
I stood by as substance passed
Seven years of love
A year of secrets
The fragments of truth
Tell a broken story
I stumbled whole-hearted
Till I saw with my own eyes
Estranged my companions
For you
You lie with the dogs
As I wrap in silent pillars
Spin in my own mysterious
Sepulchre
Black satin hidden in
Shadows of midnight
Columns of stone.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It must be a shallow and broken soul. For one to profess so much and feel so little.
