Mirror Mirror Poem by Kyra Burns

Mirror Mirror

Mirror mirror on the wall
Who is the fairest of them all?
Society says beauty is in a magazine
Or os the girl who is crowned Homecoming Queen.
Society dictates what we find attractive
By using people and ads to make girls more adaptive
To society's whims as they lay our flaws bare
While those who are deemed beautiful stop, point, and stare.
Mirror mirror on the wall
Who is the fairest of them all?
The girl with ribs poking from her sides
After being told she had 'too much fat on her thighs'?
Or maybe it's the girl with scars on her wrists
Because she was beaten by her own father's fists?
Perhaps you believe that the fairest to see
Is someone who's broken inside just like me?
Mirror mirror on the wall
Who is the fairest of them all?
God says that beauty is pure, kind, and true
And shines from the faces of people like you.
He says 'who cares if you wear the latest fashion
As long as you show that you live life with passion!
I love you just the way you were made
And my love for you will never fade.

A marvelous poem, Kyra! Society trains us from birth to value the shallow, when it is the inner person that matters. Thanks for sharing Peace
