Mirror Mirror On The Wall Poem by Stevie Ruth

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Where did I go
the true me
the real me
the me before the now me.

Where did I go
you remember the me
with dark thick brown hair
down to my shoulders.
Long legs that looked great
in tight black jeans.
Watching my reflection in
the store front glass as I
walked along busy sidewalks.

Catching the eye of men and boys
as I strolled by.
The winks
the smiles
the offers
of late night dinners and trips to the Cape.
Walks along the beach hand in hand,
feeling the closeness of another.

Who is she?
The one who looks back at me from the mirror
the one whose hair is now gray
whose body is pear shaped.
Who is the one who now keeps her slightly sagging neck
covered so delicately with the brightly colored scarf?

Where did I go?
I miss me.
I miss me.
I miss the feeling of being me.
I wish I could come back.
