(mis) Trust/ (For) Tress Poem by William McGehee

(mis) Trust/ (For) Tress

Missed out on all your chances.
Left out on all my plans.
Forgot I gave up on you.
Came back, thought I'd understand.

Mistook trust for weakness.
Fell out of faith one more.
Forsook the hands that held you.
You lost walking out that door.

Misspoke? I don't hear you.
Speak up when you tell your lies.
Forfeit the right to answer
Behind the tears you cry.

Mislead my poor conscience,
Brought back the cold and pain.
Forbid to walk up in here.
Just learned to laugh again.

Misused all I stood for.
Checked out and left your key
Forgiveness ain't so simple
Get lost, don't you bother me.
