Misfortunes Fault Poem by Lillian Autumn

Misfortunes Fault

Note: This was a song i wrote, but i just now made it a poem.

We’ve walked a million miles
Ran a thousand laps
We’ve seen the world through vile peoples eyes
Yet we still don’t know why

We’ve discovered important secrets
Just to stay alive
We know about hungry leeches, reptiles, and mycelium
But somehow the things we really need to know
Slip away from us like a cob of corn

Together we know that there is always something to hide in this world
There is always a person or two you know is never coming back
And you can conquer evil, if you are resourceful enough to live
But our question lingers, why are we like this, will we ever be safe from them?

The life we live is dangerous
The stuff we do is risky
But we never seem to have a choice
Disguises, lies, and codes
Builds our unsteady walls of safety
But it will never feel like home
The home we used to know
Is lying on the ground somewhere
And blowing in the wind
So unfortunate are we
To live these lives of misery
Yet we know there may be small moments of coconut cake and friends
In our hearts we know where the answer lies
It’s Misfortunes Fault

We’ve read a million books
We’ve built a thousand inventions
We’ve even bit the things that threaten us
But we still don’t know why

We’ve lost our dignity, our parents and our home
But we never lost our family
So many times we had to flee
When bankers won’t believe the truth
In which we give, but never receive

The eye stood watching from the very bad beginning
When everything just seemed a little bit unlucky
Someday we swear we’ll solve these questions haunting us
Sail away on a certain boat and end up somewhere safe to sea
Harpoon guns only shoot someone, when someone pulls the trigger

As volunteers we stand, for justice and for right
We stumble through the darkness, until we see the light
Fire can only hurt us if we don’t decide to fight
So we’ll stay up answering our questions throughout the night

Misfortunes done to us, what nothing else could do
We politely ask for help, people pass us by
What has happened to the world while we were so preoccupied?
Very few decide to help three children who strayed so far from home
Very few decide to help three children who are all alone
Misfortunes Fault

We’ve walked this earth with broken bones
Crying quietly
Walking with this extra eye that makes it hard to see
And it stands for misfortune

*I dedicate this song/poem to the Baudelaire orphans.
We're trying to help, rather you are alive or not. Keep your sanity, it may soon be over.
