Missing Home Poem by Felix Otiende

Missing Home

Missing Home

Time has flown by
Days have come along since I left home
Yet the emptiness within me remains strong
Am the son of Nyeri's soil

Do you know?
I still remember and miss the cool climate
Playing 'Hide and seek' with my childhood friend Samuel
How I wish I could reverse time
Where my life was attached to my family

I miss those weekends
Visiting relatives
Farming in the morning and eating Mutura in the evening at Hairungu
Before storytelling the whole night

Do old mathree still exists?
The matutus I enjoyed boarding to town
Am coming home soon just to bath on our River
To have a perfect family reunion

Even though am here my heart and soul has been at home.
