Mistress, Mistress Poem by Jade Baumgardner

Mistress, Mistress

Let me be your moonlight
When your sun nods off to sleep
Let me be the love
You in secret get to keep
Don't make me throw it away
And stage an anger I don't feel
Let my fires rage on
Because for me that's what's real
The tears keep coming
But I won't let them go
I force them back til darkness
So they may seep into shadows
I wish to make you happy
In anyway I can
But doing that leaves me standing here
A doe-eyed child, bleeding heart in my hand
If it meant that you'd be mine
I would cry you a river
If it meant I'd get to touch you
I'd be the second, forever
But you only want me
In this way not the other
Though time after time I plead of you
Just let me be the love you cover
