Modern, Poet Critics Poem by Francis Duggan

Modern, Poet Critics

Since their ideas of poets and poetry they like to define
They must feel that knowledge's light on them does shine
But with age they do not seem to mellow like good aged wine
Their ideas of life seem so different to mine.

They are modern poet critics or they do seem that way
Since on what others pen they like to have their say
For them 'tis far harder to praise than 'tis to criticize
But that others have feelings they fail to realize.

Of my own shortcomings I am all too aware
And with them I have little in common to share
They feel they are poets and I pen doggerel
The type of stuff that one could not hope to sell.

And though it seems good writers are born that way and not made
All writers should be welcome in the Wordsmith Trade
For everyone does matter it does seem to me
Though with what I say the modern poet, critics would hardly agree.
