'Mom' Poem by makenzi betts

'Mom'

Rating: 3.5

I'm not supposed to miss you.
I'm not supposed to care.
I'm not supposed to grow up,
Wishing my 'mom' was here.
I'm not supposed to wonder where you are,
Or think of what you're up to.
I know i'm not supposed to think you'll change.
I can't help it, i still do.
I'm not supposed to stand up for you.
When others bring you down.
I do it anyways.
Although you weren't and still aren't around.
I'm not supposed to want you to change.
I know in my heart you never will.
You're the one who walked away.
Look who misses you still.
Can't help myself, but to think..
I still need a 'mom.'
I give you my all; Even when i shouldn't.
I think of you and my siblings through the day..
Sad thing is I don't wanna believe that you're gone forever.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem for my momma. She left me when I was just a little youngin. Somedays it's hard to move on, and to just be strong knowing my own mother didn't want me. Other days i'm angry that i give her any emotion at all. I'm just confused and i'm looking for some comfort, and some forgivness. I wanna find room in myheart to move on. I just can't seem to do it though.
