Moonstone Beach Poem by Grant House

Moonstone Beach

We walk along the boardwalk at Moonstone Beach
My hand on her shoulder massaging her neck as we stroll together at the end of the day
The forecast of more rain unfulfilled
Tonight the clouds will obscure the intimate dance of Jupiter and the moon
What, I wonder, will the sound of waves on the black beach in the darkness have to say about it
How will the echo of these days of rest resonate in the weeks, months, and years ahead
Everyday life pauses
The natural world turns
Tonight's golden sunset ensconsed in layers upon layers of grey blue tiers
Many lives before
Many to come
Layers and layers of life
This now sunset viewed from a future far in the distance of time
Will be the sweet moment one of us will cherish
Hold onto
Oh, those were the days, she might say sitting alone in her chair gazing out the window in the glow of a midwinter evening
Oh yes, there you are
What a lovely time of walks and confidences
Smiling to herself
She lets the cool ocean breeze ruffle her hair
She is there
