Morning Poem by Lynne Brees

Morning

Morning is the best time
The sleepy moment when the sky is not yet light
But the darkness has begun to fade away

Out on the horizon
Indigo fades to orange fades to yellow fades to blue

And I sit
Alone with my thoughts

Right now
It's acceptable to be alone
It's expected to sit in a silent vigil
My voice is not criticized for being absent

I forbid the rest of the day to come
For the rush and hurry will ruin this moment
Soon I'll see cars rushing down the road
Hear birds chirp and traffic roar

But for now
It's just me and my pen and my thoughts
And I never want that to change
