I glanced up just in time to see
in the morning light a graze
of brown dashing for cover
in the shrubs that border
the driveway
It lingered by the fence
a moment or so
I froze and silently watched
as birds chattered
Then it slipped through the fence
and I came back to myself
A sleek brown hare greeting
its fellow sojourner
and on its way
