Mortal Poem by Christopher McKay

Mortal

All my sufferings
Lay and mourn in remains.
Sick and trembling
Releasing virus into my veins.
Dawn is calling
All is well I will rejoice.
They know my faulters
My weaknesses for my choice.
Lead me where men fear to tread
Torch the things I most desire.
Ball and chain made of lead
Feed my flesh to the fire.
The flip of a switch turns-
All that is life into black.
I know what's here will come next
As I walk I won't turn back.
Unlock the chained cuffs
Letting free of my hands.
I dropp to my knees in prayer
He who only understands.
Life is eternal
Only after I perish with death.
Till then I live a mortal
And prepare to give away breath.
