Mountained Heart Poem by Emma Atkinson

Mountained Heart

My Love,
You are gone from me,
Gone to roam free
And gambol in the hills of another love.
My mountained heart
Lay far away,
It's crystal lakes
Lost to fates
Too fair and far for you to remember,
As you walked,
My love an ember,
Its light grown fainter from neglect
Until it shone no more,
And you, a traveler,
Stumbled at another's door,
Who let you in and lit a fire
To dry your eyes and scrub the mire
Off your feet, sore from the journey,
And I with my mountain eyes
Saw you no more.
You did not come,
And I sought not what came before,
My stone heart silent
To your choice.
My tears came violent
As I lost my voice,
Words gone and useless in the day,
For you, My Love, were far away,
And I had not the strength to reach you.
You were happy, after all,
And I with clouded spirits saw
My love was long forgot
In the light of the one who held you
When I could not.
She led you with her blossomed hands
To fields green and distant sands
Where you could soar and she could sing,
Until the memory of my voice failed to ring,
And you forgot the echo of my song
That stirred your heart
In a time long gone.
But I will not forget.
Stone remembers and knows regret,
And I am carved of it.
