Mourning Morning Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Mourning Morning

Mourning morning, oh how bittersweet
The sun rises, but my heart can't beat
For you, my dear, have passed away
Taken by death, without delay
The birds still sing, the flowers bloom
But my world is now cloaked in gloom
For every morning, I long to see
Your smile, your touch, your love for me
The coffee brews, the paper's read
But I can't escape the thoughts in my head
Of all the mornings we shared together
Now just a distant memory, forever
The sky is painted in shades of red
But my tears keep falling, they won't be shed
For you, my love, have left this earth
Leaving me with nothing but hurt
I mourn the mornings we won't have
No more laughter, no more love to grab
The sun will rise and set each day
But in my heart, you'll always stay
Oh mourning morning, how I miss you so
My heart is heavy, it can't let you go
But I'll find solace in the memories we made
Till we meet again, in the morning shade
Farewell my love, my morning light
Until we reunite, in heaven's sight
I'll mourn each morning, with tears in my eyes
Wishing you were here, by my side.
