Mr. Lennon, I Agree

Rating: 5.0

By Josh Rodriguez

Wild, mad, elusive captive—ignorant;
We haven’t seen the last of a generation
Who’s goal was to take to the wind,
As a dove does—as Robert Zimmerman
Magnificently voiced and melodized it.
“I’m gone, I’m leaving, this town is sh*t”
Everyone thinks this but no one acts on it;
For shame, for shame.
“I have my reasons, it’s not feasible, it’s just a dream”
Excuses are abundant in a world of inexcusable actions—
For shame, for shame.
These punks, these minstrels, these abominations
Would rather sit at home, delicately and self-consciously fingering the piano keys
Than being on stage. It’s an oddity. It’s blasphemy.
They elude success, success eludes them, it’s a cycle.
The shadowless night shows no hesitation
When it’s time to blanket the earth—
Why can’t we move like the night?
Apathy is our greatest asset and curse.
We’re nothing but leaves on a magnificent, giant sequoia
Falling off, one by one. We have no purpose
And expect nothing in return for our lives.
We’re told life is meaningless-
We just accept it as such.
It’s quite the life, really, embracing ignorance
And apathy and pretending that change can’t be made.
Mr. Lennon, I agree, but most don’t bother to listen or try.
