Mrs. Macgrath'shospitality Poem by linda blackwell

Mrs. Macgrath'shospitality

Mrs. Maria MacGrath, God bless her,
Alone in her house one day,
Had run out of friends to invite to tea,
So she put one cup away.

Maria sat in her comfortable chair
In thoughtful reverie,
And bless her, half in whimsy, she invited the Lord to tea!
‘Oh, I would kneel and kiss His dear feet, '
She thought.
‘And wash them with soap and tears,
I would rub away the human hurt endured for all those years
I'd heal all broken friendships and the bitterness of His betrayal.'

‘But if the Good Lord left Heaven, ' she thought,
‘It would become less sweet!
The world might darken, rattle and quake
If the Dear Lord Jesus took a break...
Would voids appear where none should be?
Would Heaven hold its' breath? '
‘Oh, Jesus Christ! ' she cried,
And she woke up pale as death!

Oh, Maria MacGrath, good woman you are,
With a faith as bright as the day.
If you look again, there are two cups not one
And the kettles boiling away.
