Murmur... Poem by Shirley K.W. Ka

Murmur...

If I pushed you into a cage, locked us up, and gave it my name,
So that I’m the only one before your eyes...
Would you be happy, would you smile?
How long can I keep you inside?
If I closed all the windows, all the doors, so that you’re only mine,
Would there be air? Could you breathe?
Would it not make you wonder,
If it’s not better outside?
If one day you get curious, would you not break the cage?
Throw my hands off?
And leave me behind?
At least to just see, what else you would find?
If indeed outside is better, is it then not “goodbye”?
You were then mine only, because, there was only I.
When choices come,
You’d no longer be mine.
Anyone but me, no matter how hard I’d try.
But if I let you in the open, with a pair of wings, and let you free,
So that choices are abundant...
Would you choose another, or would you choose me?
