My Best Friend Poem by Jennifer Sollmann

My Best Friend

I pull my knees to my chest
As I sit feeling numb to it all
I have no desire to do anything
I just want to sit and cry over you
A simple depression settles over me
I can’t find the joy in simple things
The only joy I find is in your words
Your smile, your eyes, your everything
I know you love me, it’s just not the same
The love I feel for you fills my heart
The love you feel for me does not
The weather outside reflects what I feel
Tears fall from the slate gray clouds
Cries of pain boom from the earth
Flashes of lightening beg for help
I don’t have the energy to do it anymore
I can’t bring myself to don a mask
A fake smile takes too much out of me
If I let go, will you be there to catch me
Will you realize my eyes reflect yours
Will you smile inside when you see me
Will you fall for me as hard as I fell for you
Will the sun rise in my smile and set in my eyes
So many unanswered questions assail me
As the rain pours harder, I hold on tighter
Overcome by the thought
I’m in love with my best friend
