the dirt gets accumulated...both inside and outside...that is why our ancestors affixed much importance to cleancing of body and mind...but ancient sages, they never bothered about cleancing, for their body and mind were far above the threshold where dirt could accumulate...they had their own ways for achieving physical and mental purity (Bahya Abyandhara Suchi) ...riddance... as the poem advises... a good philosophical write, sharmaji!
