my brother died today
his corpse was laid out
for the coroner to see
then other men came
wrapped him up
took him away
down the elevator went
out the building
into the vehicle
into the earth that laid
barren, waiting
my mother missed it
my mother stayed at home
still mourning my brother
who was smoking
in the room next door

This poem hit me. One minute smoking and another minute dead. The one way traffic of life through time and the gravity of death. It really smacks me in the face.
