My cell phone rang…hmmm…I wonder what now?
Who’s it from? The question furrowed my brow.
I picked up the phone, all across the dark screen,
I prayed, Lord, could you please intervene?
The message said, “Dad is tired of the fight for his life,
He is tired and so weary of the struggle to survive.”
Yesterday he struggled, then said “I’m ready, you know, ’”
“Please meet me in heaven, I am just letting go.”
So, mostly at peace, but sometimes confused…
Then… clear as a bell, but his muscles refused.
“I can’t lift a finger, I can’t turn my head, ”
Oh, Lord, what’s my purpose of lying in bed”
But oh, what a messenger of grace and goodwill,
And patience, as you laid on your bed, very ill.
But you rallied and won a few battles of health,
Now, you’ve won the long battle of heavenly wealth.
I met you one day in your sunshiny room
I said, “Wow, you’re looking so good, has your strength resumed?
“That’s what they tell me, ” he said with a grin,
As he wrestled his chair, till it satisfied him.
Dear uncle,
You loved to inquire about all of your friends,
Warm greetings of friendship you wanted to send.
Then you’d ask about those who had strayed from the Lord,
It grieved you so much, when they scorned your kind words.
I think the old Bible you carried inside
Of your saddle, was soaked with some tears on your rides.
You knelt by your horse, on the sagebrush and thistle,
Your horse knew his master, his call, and his whistle.
You too, knew your Master, you knew where to go,
When things became tough, and your step became slow.
The fences you mended may someday be tangled
The trails that you loved be washed out and brambled,
The dawn of your sunrise, has finished your story
Morning for you, dawned in eternal glory.
You traded earth’s shackles for freedom in heaven
Our dear Uncle Emory, we must live to see you again…
In the morning…
in the morning…
