My Darling Damned Poem by Shanto Armonde

My Darling Damned

I saw her through my admiring eyes,
I heard her words, innocent of lies.
I was lost in love, dreaming.
Lost in her brilliant beauty,
My heart was beating
As it filled with love, ever so slowly.

But I saw her there, from afar,
Floating in kisses and dancing wild!
It burned on my chest an envy's scar,
Growing deeper as she moved and smiled.

My mind was enslaved by untamed jealousy
Swelling every moment in its efficacy.
As she bid farewell to her lover and retired,
My restraint gave way-it had grown so tired.

She was filled with joy as homeward she went,
From behind I approached, with dark intent.
My steps she heard not, nor did I catch her eye,
A shining blade unsheathed, I held it hard and high.
With force I thrust it, and the blade pierced deep,
She let out a cry, and cried again, then fell sound asleep.

Lying, absent of life, in her beauty and evening dress,
I stared into her eyes, so lovely and yet so lifeless.
I then threw my cloak over her unmoving form
(Eyes glistening with tears) , to keep her warm.

On the grass lay my darling damned, with silent breast,
I walked away, still in love as I set my demons to rest.
