My Dear Poem by Rose Marie Cook

My Dear

Sharp intakes of breath
Struggling to get out
This life consumes me
Even when I shout

Harsh blows
Pound my body
The cold touch of his hands
Invades my haven

His eyes burn into mine
Under his spell
No where to run
No where to hide

Bruises and scars
Become my life
I work so hard
To not show strife

Under all this pain
I think of you
Your face, your touch
Is what gets me through

Everytime his fist comes down
I stay silent; without a sound
I close my eyes
Feel your embrace

Everytime his lips find mine
I pull away
Feel you with me
And struggle to stay

When he pulls me close
I dream of you
When he says 'I love you'
I miss you

When he is around
All thoughts that are found
Are about you
I try so hard

To do as he wishes
To say what he wants to hear
But the thing is I can't
Because I love YOU my dear.
