My Eternal Rose Poem by Roberto Echanes

My Eternal Rose

This lyric poem explores the theme of platonic love for the poet persona's sweetheart with whom he's had a close relationship in his past life and happened to meet each other again in the present life. There's an implied dramatic conflict between the lady and the persona who is so desirous to possess her, knowing fully well that they can only be together in the mental and spiritual plane as this is dictated by their karma in the present life.

Of all the flowers in my Lord's garden
you came to me, O little tender bud,
to grow into such a gorgeous bloom
whose mellow fragrance fills my being,
inebriates my mind with endless longing;
love's eternal, beyond the edge of doom.

So the Bard said; O my eternal Rose!
Ever pristine, so full of loveliness and rejoice.
O my eternal Rose!
The magic of your smile silences my voice,
and..., the sun glows -
O my Eternal Rose!
Brings the new dawn of day,
brings the new blossoms of May.
O my Eternal Rose!
You're the hope for a new day.

And after spring enters the summer.
Whispers the wind; happy mem'ries brings.
Your sunny smile turns all into colour,
turns into joy, happy moments of bliss.
O Eternal Rose, I see your ravishing face,
I see your dazzling beauty; 'tis thy grace.
Who would say I couldn't make you mine?
You were mine since th' beginning of time.
Who would say we were far apart?
You ever reside in the core of my heart.
