My Eyes Are Dry Poem by Roman Golubev

My Eyes Are Dry

My eyes are dry but my heart is crying
After your every phone call
Waiting for it with fear and hope
Listening to your loveless voice.

You are turning over a new page in your life,
Feels like ripping pages out of the book of our love,
Bleeding along the edges.

Love is a choice to make.
Passions subside and wither
Like tidal waves and flowers.
Love stays anchored
Strong-legged love stays,
Unabating.

It takes two to make it last
On a common ground
Treaded by many in darkness and light.
Someone may have a sharp vision
Others are fumbling
Trying to find the mortar and shovel.

Look at this beautiful building,
Full of sounds, smells and colours!
Yesterday, remember, it was there;
Today it is gone: dust and bricks and crows flying
Over its rotting remains.

It wasn’t a fire; just a street light went out, some time ago
I couldn’t see where to put my fixes
Didn’t even know it needed one
Just felt something was going amiss
Was groping around and you gave no light.

A stranger comes with a helpful hand led by you.
Without hope giving up the book
Passing me over another one.
I read the book, the list of damages long.

Fly away my birdie to greener pastures
Fly away my butterfly
Hurry to the light!
I can fix burnt wings and broken hearts.
Who will fix mine?
