My Fairytale Poem by chris schwartz

My Fairytale

You can't put a thumbprint on Misery.
Those of us who have it
Seem haunted
Darkened
By its'ever existing cloud.
We don't wish for it
Though, somehow,
It entertains us
In the late night hours,
That sleep can't understand.
We try to cloud ourselves
With another, jolted
By him,
Who is much the same.
And leave him,
Unattended,
To rest peacefully,
In his dreams
That are not in my chapter.
I hate the darkness!
In the fear of closing my eyes,
I realize,
I may lose you.
So, I get drunk
On yesterday,
To bring me back
To the time I still saw
The sparkle in your eyes.
I don't know how
To fix you.
And I don't know how
To bring me back
To the girl that
You finally found
As your dream.
I only know
That I loved you best,
I only realized,
That I should have
Held out,
Waiting,
To be saved,
Like Rapunzel.
Because then,
My prince,
Would have won.
