My Friend, I Myself Do Not Know... Poem by Mohammad Younus

My Friend, I Myself Do Not Know...

My friend, I myself do not know...
...how it happened;
My Irfan is transformed, renewed...
...each moment.
He has dwelt in my heart as a thinker...
...such that I always think about him;
He has dwelt in my eyes as a seer...
...such that when I look at his...
...marvelous creation...
...I see only his creative power manifest...
...in all the things of his creation;
He has dwelt in my ears as a listener..
...such that my ears hear all the time...
...his sweet voice call in eternity;
And yet it is always new and newer to me;
He has dwelt with me through my nights...
...in such a way that my heart remains...
...busy in the perennial zikr;
How many honeyed nights have I passed...
...with him through his blessing...
...yet I wonder I have found him imperceptible...
....and indescribable;
Through all the ages, he has been my beloved...
...yet my desire to continue to be in his remembrance...
...never abates;
The fire of Allah is burning in me...
...yet I am not reduced to ashes, and got...
....totally annihilated;
None is so close to my heart as He...
...and how that can be?
What can cool the Fire of Allah in my heart?
None and nothing at all, says MyKoul.
