My Garden Of Joy Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

My Garden Of Joy

Realizing the days are getting shorter...
my garden grows with last of summer
vigor and fortitude…giving its last hurrah
before cold nights stun and make us stutter

The last red tomatoes of the season are
terrific by comparison to store bought
Oh, how I am gonna miss their juiciness
during the winter... they will not be forgot

My dear zucchini…you are overgrown in
size…hidden by fanlike leaves that spread
I know you'll want to be the main ingredient
in an awesome autumn loaf of yummy bread

A spectrum of mild and hot, sweet and not...
Jalapenos… you put fever in my pot of chili
The absence of my peppers will be grieved
My stir fry will be less colorful…what a pity

Green pole beans…your pods have withered
dry… your seeds have ripened and have staying
power… to be harvested and saved for spring
planting… stored in a sealed glass jar…waiting

All summer long I have had many moments of joy
and satisfaction… watching you grow and persist
You have never disappointed me in the least...
with sadness in my heart… you will be missed
