My Heart Is Not Mine Anymore Poem by Emma Atkinson

My Heart Is Not Mine Anymore

Rating: 5.0

My heart is not mine anymore,
Nor my thoughts my thoughts.
I have given them away, released them into the wild,
And they soar
High, high into the endless sky
That is my love for you.

You are the very sunshine that kisses my face,
And my arms, outspread like wings,
Embrace
All of you.

My soul like a swallow sings,
As it takes flight,
In the blue expanse that is your love.
Never have I known such pure delight,
This blessing from above,
This knowledge that you are mine,
And I so much yours I am no longer my own.

We are roses blushing under an arbor.
Our bodies and souls entwine,
Unfolding, one into the other,
Blushing petals and lilac wine.
The scent sweet like summer,
Innocent and new.

And my eyes, two curious does,
Stand still gazing at you,
Frozen in their wonder, and delicate as a rose.
You gaze back, dark as earth,
And as deep as the river at sunset,
Vibrant with a woodland mirth,
Just as gentle as your lips are wet.

I am lost in you, and you in me,
An aquamarine sea
Endless as the sky above.
Endless as our love.

My heart is not mine anymore,
Yours is mine and mine is yours.
We are two wild spirits melding into one,
Curling into each other and opening like emerald leaves
In the light of the sun
That is my love for you and yours for me.

Like birds we are set free
To fly on the winds of bliss,
Breathed into being by our first, shy kiss,
As you gaze at me and I at you,
An innocence as delicate as the dewdrops caught in my lashes,
Soft and ever-new,
And my heart is not mine anymore.
It is forever and irrevocably yours.
