My Heart Is Yours Poem by louise smith

My Heart Is Yours

Rating: 5.0

My love, I have tried with all my being
to grasp a form comparable to thine own,
but nothing seems worthy;

I know now why Shakespeare could not
compare his love to a summer’s day.
It would be a crime to denounce the beauty
of such a creature as thee,
to simply cast away the precision
God had placed in forging you.

Each facet of your being
whether it physical or spiritual
is an ensnarement
from which there is no release.
But I do not wish release.
I wish to stay entrapped forever.
With you for all eternity.
Our hearts, always as one.

I really like this poem and your allusions to Shakespeare. It makes me think of the concluding lines of 'My Mistress' Eyes are Nothing Like the Sun in which Shakespeare says his love for the dark lady is more genuine than that of those other flatterers who make false comparisons in their poetry when writing about their loves. While your declaration of affection is quite direct and over the top, it is nevertheless sincere. Kudos to you for writing such a delightful love poem.

That is so romantic to say louise. William Shakespeare will be proud of you with your excellent writing. Keep it up.
