My Inner World Poem by Moya Staten

My Inner World

I was the Universe, Not the earth,
I was Garden, not a flower, I was an Ocean, not just a Stream
But life has taught me to be small and quiet

But, I woke up one day
Longing for that little girl
Who realized that she was living in a corner, and not her inner world?
As I slowly unlock each door, decided that I wanted to play, to live, sing, to dance and no longer hide.
This little girl is finally free,
I carried a dancing universe of planets, of galaxies, of forest of Oceans and streams inside me

An eloquent reminder: children are born with voracious curiosity because nature intended them to soak up all possible knowledge. As a fringe benefit of this, they imagine themselves among the stars. Later their lives fit into patterns decided by society. As a side effect, they endure the big squeeze of maturity. Maybe this is part of Mother Nature's plan, but it doesn't have to be so cruel.
