My Job Is Done - Poem by Lizzy Henry

My job was to protect you.
From everything from scraped knees,
To broken hearts....
But now we hardly ever talk,
You left me in the shadows,
And had someone else take my place.
I guess I'm not needed anymore.
You walked away,
Now there is nothing left between us.
My job is done.
You don't need me anymore.
You don't need my help.
You have someone else to help you up.
We never talk,
We never see each other,
And to tell you the truth,
It hurts sometimes.
My job is over and done with...
For now.
You pushed me aside.
And told me with silent words,
I don't need you anymore.
I guess I'll believe you.
My job is over.
I'll move on and just,
Be someone who helps,
Now and again...
Goodbye for now my friend...
