My Kingdom Poem by Fiona Burgess

My Kingdom

Welcome to my kingdom.
I know these walls are high,
They're thick and solid
And cast with iron
If I let you inside
You'll see why.

Welcome to my kingdom.
I don't suggest you stay too long
The climate leaves much
To be desired, and the people
Not very nice.
This kingdom only tolerates the strong.

Welcome to my kingdom.
Where you can, if you want, find pleasures
Temptation and vice
Corruption and glory
Whatever your heart desires
Can be found in palaces filled with treasures.

Welcome to my kingdom.
Are you ready to trade your soul?
For that's the cost of your stay
Be it one day or eternity
You'll lose yourself
And if you leave, you won't be whole.

So, you're welcome in my kingdom.
For better or worse, good or ill
There's still a chance for you to turn back
Go back to your homes and families
If you don't go now
You never will.
