My Life Is Mine Primarily Poem by Dr John Celes

My Life Is Mine Primarily

My life is mine and not for sale –
Something to be lived just by me;
Come what may, storm, tornado, gale!
I should live well and much freely

My life is like a paper boat,
Adrift upon the seven seas;
I am akin a mountain goat
That climbs the tough terrain with ease.

My life is like a house built well,
Upon a rock and founded strong;
Nobody need advise or tell,
To live how best and for how long.

My life is like a pot I make
With patience, finesse, talent, skills;
It does not matter how I bake,
As long as contentment me fills!

My life is like a pleasant trip
To where I want I make my way;
It does not matter plane or ship,
I always have the final say!

My life is like portrait made
Clumsy, shabby, with splattered ink;
The water spilled then makes it fade,
Because I took a nap and wink!

My life is like a steeple chase;
I know I cannot run for long;
There are more hurdles I can’t face;
Let it be my own plaintive song.

My life is like a book I write,
Always remaining incomplete;
I put my might and add my mite;
I beat a hasty, Oh, retreat!

My life is like a gift from God –
Most precious thing on earth I got;
I do not want to earn His rod;
I am the Maker’s special pot!
